Plant Services

Facilities management for the Penn Hills School District is a massive undertaking. The school district's facilities, equipment, and grounds are distributed among three primary locations up to three miles apart. Offices for Plant Services may be found in the Central Administrative Wing at Linton Middle School (260 Aster Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15235). 

Brandon Chabola serves as the department's director.

Physical plants maintained by the Plant Department are:

  • 3 school buildings
  • Fralic athletic Center
  • One Field house
  • Approximately 851,000 interior square feet
  • A 10,250 seat, lighted football stadium with track and artificial turf
  • A 1,500 seat, lighted soccer stadium with walking track and artificial turf
  • A 262,000-gallon competition swimming pool
  • 11 athletic playing fields
  • One competition track
  • 115 acres of total District property managed
  • Maintained grounds totaling approximately 107 acres
  • 22 heating boilers
  • 4 chillers
  • 36 large air handling HVAC units at Penn Hills SD
  • This does not include any of the small units that are at every room and connected to these larger units.

In addition to cleaning and maintenance, the Facilities Department also provides the following District-wide services and/or leadership:

  • Rental management
  • Health and Safety Committee
  • Environmental safety and health coordination
  • Building, playground, and athletic facilities safety and maintenance inspections
  • Hazardous material control
  • Asbestos abatement
  • Security coordination
  • ADA survey and compliance
  • Furniture and equipment inventory management
  • Utilities coordination
  • Project management
  • Work order management and reporting
  • Financial control of approximately $3.9 million per year
  • Facilities capital budgeting
  • Construction monitoring and coordination
  • Facilities planning analysis and advice

Community-Based Reform Initiatives

Dr. Nancy Hines, Superintendent, addresses the board about community-based reform efforts being undertaken by the District in collaboration with community-based agencies and groups.

Class of 2023 Commencement

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2023 will be held on June 9, 2023 at 6:30 PM at Yuhas-McGinley Stadium. Beginning at 6:15 p.m., the event will be broadcast live on phsd.org. 


 

Athletics and Activities Presentation

Stephanie Strauss, the district athletic director, gave a presentation to the board of directors about Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL), college recruitment, and public relations during the regular voting meeting in April.
