School Social Workers

School social work is a subset of the larger field of social work practice. School social workers contribute special expertise and abilities to the school system and the student services team. School Social Workers are certified mental health specialists who may help with mental health issues, behavioral issues, positive behavioral assistance, academic and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators, and individual and group counseling/therapy. School social workers play an important role in advancing the objective of schools, which is to offer a space for teaching, learning, and the development of competence and confidence. School social workers are recruited by school districts to help the district fulfill its academic purpose, particularly when family, school, and community collaboration is critical to student success.
