Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention

Act 71

On June 26, 2014, Act 71 was signed into law.   This new legislation requires educational entities to: (1) create a youth suicide awareness and prevention policy and (2) offer continuing professional development in youth suicide awareness and prevention for professional educators in buildings serving students in grades 6 through 12. Furthermore, Section 1526 clearly enables schools to integrate curricula on this issue in their educational programs in compliance with their policies on juvenile suicide awareness and prevention.

Act 71 requires the Penn Hills School District to provide continuing suicide prevention training to district staff.
