Jahzara Michelle, a sophomore at Penn Hills High School, is not only a talented singer but also a songwriter. Many students may recognize her from the February talent show, where she performed Beautiful Girls, an original song she wrote.
Jahzara's musical journey began after the passing of her cousin, who was a rapper. In his memory, she initially tried rapping but soon realized her heart was in singing. When she sang, she felt at home and knew it was the best way to honor him.
Her song, Beautiful Girls, encourages girls to be confident in themselves. "No matter their imperfections, girls are beautiful no matter what," Jahzara shared. "I want to spread awareness so that women and girls all around the world know they should love themselves." Jahzara was inspired to write the song during a moment when she wasn't feeling her best, and she now hopes her song will empower other girls—whether they are her age, younger, or older.
After writing her song in January of 2024, she was in the recording studio by March. She is currently working with her brother, a photographer with experience in video production, to create a music video that she hopes to release in June or July.
Jahzara plans to continue writing and singing while also working towards her future. After high school, she hopes to balance her passion for music with her goal of becoming a pediatrician.
