Penn Hills Elementary School Kicks Off Second Year of Disney Musicals in Schools with "Finding Nemo"

This DMiS program is a three-year grant-funded initiative designed to help public elementary schools that fall under the Title I designation, develop sustainable musical theater programs.

Last year, Penn Hills Elementary was selected as one of the schools to benefit from this incredible opportunity. Through this program, students not only get the chance to perform in a full-scale production, but faculty and staff also receive valuable training in directing, music, choreography, and stage management from Pittsburgh Cultural Trust teaching artists. 

This year's dedicated team includes returning Director Loyal Jasper, Vocal Director Tiffany Musabyiamana, Choreographer Mallory Grantz, Costumes and Makeup Director Rachel Wimbush, and Stage Manager Joseph Galgon. 

Auditions for "Finding Nemo" were held on November 12 and 14, with over 100 students participating. Callbacks wrapped up on November 21, and the cast list will be released soon. The first read-through, along with a parent meeting, is scheduled for December 3.

Penn Hills Elementary is proud to be part of the DMiS program and is grateful for the chance to share the magic of theater with students and the broader community. The school is excited to bring the show to life on stage at Linton Middle School on May 2-3, 2025. Additionally, they look forward to the opportunity for students to perform at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh alongside other participating DMiS schools, just like they did last year. 

This year's production promises to be an exciting celebration of the arts, teamwork, and the unique talents of our students!
