On Saturday, August 17, 2024, the Penn Hills School District (PHSD) held its annual Back-to-School PHamily Fun Fest at Penn Hills High School, bringing together students and families for an afternoon of excitement and community spirit.

The event kicked off with the first 150 students receiving free PHSD-branded drawstring bags, followed by the distribution of additional school supplies, including notebooks, folders, pencils and pens. Administrators from each school were in attendance welcoming families, introducing themselves and sharing important back-to-school information.

The PHSD Security Team was also present, offering branded sunglasses and distributing photos of the security team for each school.

Various sports teams—including the bowling team, cheerleaders and basketball team—sold snacks, with the cheerleaders providing face painting for the younger attendees.

In addition to the school and sports-related tables, there was a wide range of activities to keep children entertained, from a bouncy house and cornhole games to an open gym where students could play volleyball and basketball. The event also featured several community partners who distributed school supplies and other resources. These partners included the Center for Victims, Sullivan’s Super Service, Pittsburgh NFL Flag Football, Joe McAndrew’s office, Penn Hills Rotary, PHAMILY apparel, Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy (which provided free massages), Becoming a Man, Krise Transportation, Auberle and the Corvette Club.

At 1 p.m. everyone was invited into the gym for performances by the Big Red Marching Band, the JV Cheerleaders, and the Middle School Cheerleading team.

With an excellent turnout, the PHamily Fun Fest was a resounding success, setting the tone for a promising start to the new school year. The event not only provided essential supplies and resources but also strengthened the bonds within the Penn Hills community, ensuring that students, families, and staff are well-prepared and excited for the year ahead.
