Request to Address The Board

The Board of School Directors welcomes public participation and values community input. When matters raised by participants fall under existing Board policies and procedures, they will be addressed in accordance with those guidelines. 

Public comment is open to: 

  • Residents or taxpayers of the district 

  • Representatives of community or school district groups 

  • Representatives of firms eligible to bid on district contracts 

  • District employees 

  • District students

Guidelines for Public Comment: 

  1. Agenda Registration: Individuals wishing to have their name and/or topic included on the agenda must register with the Board Secretary by 9:00 a.m. the day before the meeting. 

  1. Time Limit: To ensure all participants have an opportunity to speak, comments are limited to three (3) minutes per person. Groups addressing the same topic must appoint a spokesperson. 

  1. Recognition and Identification: Participants must be recognized by the presiding officer before speaking and must state their name, address, and group affiliation (if applicable) before beginning their comments. 

  1. Addressing the Board: All remarks must be directed to the presiding officer. Individual Board members may not be addressed or questioned directly. 

  1. Authority of the Presiding Officer: The presiding officer may: 

  • Interrupt or terminate a speaker's comments if they are excessively long, personally directed, abusive, obscene, or irrelevant. 
  • Request removal of individuals who do not observe proper decorum. 
  • Seek assistance from law enforcement if a person's behavior disrupts the meeting. 
  • Call for a recess or adjournment if public behavior prevents the orderly conduct of the meeting. 
  • Waive these rules with the approval of the Board. 
  • Respond to questions, refer them to the appropriate person, or ensure they are addressed in a timely manner. 
  1. Board Response: The Board will carefully listen to public comments. If a response is necessary, it will be provided in a timely manner, either by phone or in writing. 

Please note: Comments made during a Board meeting become part of the public record.
